Considering Veneers from Padre Island

If you have a pointy tooth or a tooth that is smaller than average or unusually shaped, veneers may be right for you. With custom-crafted porcelain shells, you can achieve a symmetrical and balanced smile. General dentist Sophi Nabavi-Vatankhah, DMD, performs veneer placement at Padre Island Family Dentistry. What Are Veneers?

Your permanent teeth are covered with wafer-thin porcelain shells called veneers. Minor imperfections like pointy, small, or stained teeth can be concealed with these products.

Depending on how badly your tooth has chipped, you may need only one veneer, but Dr. Nabavi-Vatankhah typically recommends getting six to eight. This gives your smile a natural-looking balance.

What Types of Issues Can Veneers Correct?

Dr. Nabavi-Vatankhah uses veneers at Padre Island Family Dentistry to correct a variety of oral problems, including:

  • Broken teeth
  • Chipped teeth
  • Pointed teeth
  • Unusually shaped teeth
  • Smaller-than-average teeth
  • Stains

If you have gaps between your teeth, veneers might also be beneficial to you.

What Is Involved in Getting Veneers?

A veneer procedure involves two appointments.

  • First veneers visit

The first thing Dr. Nabavi-Vatankhah does is review your dental records, conduct an oral examination, and listen to what you like and dislike about your smile. Her next step is to take X-rays to assess your teeth's alignment and health.

Dr. Nabavi-Vatankhah prepares your teeth for veneers if you don't have any signs of gum disease or tooth decay. A thin layer of enamel is carefully shaved off of each tooth after your mouth is numbed. Her next step is to send digital impressions to a laboratory.

Lab technicians craft custom veneers that perfectly fit your teeth based on your impressions.

  • Second veneers visit

Padre Island Family Dentistry receives the custom veneers from the laboratory. Dr. Nabavi-Vatankhah bonds the veneers to your permanent teeth and trims off any excess material before explaining how to take care of them.

How Long Do Veneers Last?

A good oral hygiene routine can extend the longevity of your veneers by up to 12-15 years*. In addition to brushing twice daily and flossing every day, Dr. Nabavi-Vatankhah recommends visiting Padre Island Family Dentistry every six months for a professional dentist cleaning.

You should refrain from smoking and drink beverages such as coffee and soda from a straw to prevent stains from building up on your veneers.
